Astronomy · Site Credits
This part of the site was coded by myself using XML and the XML functions of PHP 5. It owes a debt of gratitude to the astronomy site created and maintained by Dave Pearson who provided a great deal of information about his logs and helpfully defined his XML files. He has put a lot of thought into presenting his observing logs in a useful and informative way and I hope that by applying his methods, my logs have a similar rigorous approach.
The basic idea is that each of the observing logs is stored in a XML file. This is made up of a series of tags which define everything from the observer, through the location and equipment used to what actually was observed. XHTML is then used to interpret and format this data in the form of both an individual observing report and the indices on the left which present different ways to access the reports available.
