Notes

Very cold, calm, very clear skies with only some faint cloud on the low northern and eastern horizons.

Observations

Comet C/2013 R1 Lovejoy

I easily found Comet Lovejoy using the binoculars, observing it as a faint fuzz with a greenish tinge. Using the camera and the 50mm I took a series of photos that I later stacked using Nebulosity. It made a beautiful sight high in the area below Ursa Major showing a faint tail in the images.

Comet Lovejoy R1

1x8s exposure at ISO 1600, 50mm at f/1.8, processed using Aperture.

Comet C/2012 S1 ISON

Comet ISON proved more elusive than Comet Lovejoy and though I scanned the eastern horizon using binoculars and images I failed to spot the Comet before the approaching dawn washed out the sky. I suspect that the mountains of Glencoe blocked out my low horizon.

Stars over Ballachulish

1x6s exposure at ISO 800, 50mm at f/2.2, processed using Aperture.
