A warm summers evening with a slightly muggy feel and bands of light cloud lingering on the horizon.

Observations

Partial Lunar Eclipse

After a pretty lousy summer for observing on my penultimate night here in Ellesmere Port the skies cleared and I was treated to brilliant views of a partial lunar eclipse as it hung low over the houses, dramatically orange and already seemingly at maximum.

As the moon continued to rise higher I watched the Earth's shadow shrinking and the colour of the Moon brightening from an intense muddy-orange through to a paler yellow.

Finally I've put together this composite of 5 shots taken throughout the eclipse which shows the shadows progression quite nicely:

The event lasted only for a little under half an hour, but was good to observe nonetheless.
