A clear winter day gave way to a crisp, clear evening with Venus bright in the west.

Observations

Mercury and Venus

It's not too often that you get to see Mercury in the sky, but currently at twilight with clear skies you can see it low in the western sky. When I went up to Palace Green by the cathedral it was 6 degrees below and to the right of the dazzlingly bright Venus.

Venus and Mercury

Venus was immediately an obvious sight and it didn't take too long to pick it up with binoculars and then, once located, with naked eye. In the image above Mercury is below and to the right of Venus, not very high above the treeline. The shot below is a close up of the two with Venus top right and Mercury bottom left.
