Cold early morning with a heavy dew and some light haze. Later thick fog rolled in.

Observations

Planetary Conjunction

In the still hour before dawn I headed into Victoria Park to view the planetary conjunction with Jupiter and Mars at their closest. The views were excellent with low haze being below the planets. I took various photos and enjoyed a wander around the park under these clear conditions. Blog entry.

Aurora Borealis

That evening I headed out to Midmar to see if I could see the Northern Lights. I drove through thick fog but the hilltop was mostly clear and a pale green-ish band on the northern horizon marked the aurora. Long exposure photos brought out some details but sadly the fog slowly rose until the views were obscured. Blog entry.
