Observations

Comet C/2020 F3 NEOWISE

I cycled across from Tillicoultry to the road just above Marchglen which offers a clear view north across lower Strathdevon to the central Ochils. It was an incredibly clear night and noticeably darker than the previous nights. However, it was clear from a sweep of the northern sky that Comet NEOWISE was no longer a bright, naked-eye object.

Given that I was cycling I had only brought the two cameras and my tripod. I soon had everything set-up and a quick test-shot showed the comet above the western ridge of Wood Hill. I soon had the focus and settings dialled in and was able to take a steady stream of images.

Over the course of about an hour there was very little in the way of cloud. NEOWISE sank slowly towards Wood Hill and the northeastern sky gradually grew brighter. At 2:30 dew was becoming a problem so I drew the session to a close, packed up and cycled home.
