Notes

Poor seeing conditions with a lot of twinkling. Light cloud particularly in the north. Less cold than expected. Meteor spotted, fast and bright travelling towards Jupiter.

Observations

Jupiter

Used my new 58ยบ 4mm eyepiece which gave an excellent wide field of view with good clarity and colour across the view. Three Gallilean moons visible. Faint hint of cloud bands on the planet. Lots of turbulence tonight.

Saturn

Saturn and Titan visible. Very poor seeing so Cassini division barely visible.

Mars

Very poor viewing compared to the previous week. Barely any detail on the planet just a wash of blue-red.

Moon

Just past quarter Moon low in the southwestern sky with occasional light cloud. Reasonably crisp views in the 25mm eyepiece although plenty of evidence of the poor seeing conditions. The 4mm eyepiece gave a very satisfying close-up view despite the turbulence.

Hazy First Quarter Moon
